We were delighted to welcome probably our youngest ever musical director, Sean Gleeson. Sean was relatively new to conducting the works of Gilbert & Sullivan. He is involved with Leeds Youth Opera as Conducting Intern and is also an accomplished cornetist.
Our first production of "The Sorcerer" took place at Hanover Street Congregational Church in Batley (now demolished). By 1980, the Society had moved to Cross Bank Church, where performances were given in the schoolroom. The last production, in 2008, was at Dewsbury Arts Centre (latterly re-named Dewsbury Little Theatre) in Batley Carr. Cross Bank Church closed in the early 1980's and subsequently became the home of a local security company. The Little Theatre closed in 2011 and subsequently demolished.
Two of the principals, Stephanie Roe and Robert Thurman, amassed a total of 90 years on the local amateur stage in this year. They wear well you know!
