Did you know?

  • This production was the very first time the Society had performed "The Sorcerer". Why it took 19 years is not currently known, though it is one of the less well known Gilbert & Sullivan operettas.

    Clive Moul

Clive Moul : - President in 1967 and played John Wellington Wells in this production.

  • Sadly, the Batley News at the time, was not overly impressed with the operetta with the headline "Sorcerer delays its spell" :, blaming Gilbert & Sullivan for the length of time it took to come to a climax. They were also critical of the scenery (unrealistic), the dancing (a little monotonous at times) and Constance (too old).

Read the full report for local reporting at it's most critical!
