Did You Know?

This was our 20th production and the 3rd time in our history we've produced "The Mikado".

• Such was the populartiy of the Society, it continued to attract new members leading to a need to enlarge the stage to accommodate the increasing size of the cast.
• A picture of the principals from the Batley News.
• Theodore Robinson, who played the part of Pish-Tush, also appeared in the same role in our very first production in 1949.John Whitehead also appeared in the chorus in both productions.
• The programme included obituaries for two of its founding members and former Presidents.
  Mr F. Atkins was a member of the chorus for the first production by the Society in 1949, coincidentally The Mikado. He had until 1965 been an active chorus member. and also held the position of programmed editor.
  Mr S.W. Lockyer was also in the first production of The Mikado, taking the part of Pooh-Bah. Mr Lockyer played many major roles including King Gama in Princess Ida, The Duke of Plaza-Torro in The Gondoliers, Sir Joseph Porter in HMS Pinafore, and the Major General in the Pirates of Penzance. Mr Lockyer served the Society as secretary for two years.
